Launceston Castle

Head to the top of the battlements at Launceston Castle and take in the spectacular views of the rolling Cornish countryside all around.  The castle guards the town of Launceston, Cornwall’s ancient capital and was once a famous prison, learn all about the castle’s fascinating 1,000 year history with the informative exhibits.  Launceston Castle these days really is all about those views though!

The Tamar Valley AONB

The 75 square miles that make up the stunning Tamar Valley designated AONB make for the perfect playground for your holiday.  Stretching all the way from Bodmin to Dartmoor, there are plenty of gentle walks, challenging hikes, daring bike trails and every other outdoor activity you could hope for within the valley.  Wherever you head for, make sure to pause a moment and breathe in that fresh Cornish air and soak up those views.

Roadford Lake

Get stuck straight into the great outdoors with a day at Roadford Lake! The pretty lake is surrounded by woodlands and countryside teeming with local wildlife, head out on foot and see what you can spot along the way. We’d recommend taking along a picnic or enjoying a pitstop at the cafe by the lake. 

Kit Hill Country Park

The famous Kit Hill is the highest point in the Tamar Valley and is an ideal place to take in some of the most spectacular 360 degree views. Head for the top and cast your eye all the way across to Dartmoor in the East and Plymouth in the South. The country park covers some 400 acres of heathland to explore complete with local wildlife, birds and plants to spot along the way.

Dartmoor

As well as the stunning Tamar Valley, a short journey will get you to the heart of Dartmoor’s rugged, dramatic wilderness!  The ultimate adventure playground with something for absolutely everyone: history lovers can explore ruins and soak up the myths and legends of Dartmoor through the ages, families have plenty to keep kids of all ages entertained at indoor and outdoor attractions and there are of course endless opportunities to ramble, run, ride and stay active in the outdoors.

Cotehele

With an impressive medieval Tudor house, an historic quay with a working mill, stunning gardens and valley views and a sprawling estate to enjoy, Cotehele is one of the National Trusts best kept South West spots.  It’s easy to spend a day immersing yourself in the rich, atmospheric history of Cotehele and learning all about the diverse wildlife on this part of the mighty Tamar River.
